Winter may have arrived, but that didn’t stop the Eastern Voyager from delivering epic fishing trips on the Swains Reef throughout June and July. With back-to-back charters, the crew kept the good times rolling, and the catches coming, making for some unforgettable adventures.
One of the standout trips in July was when Andy and his mates embarked on a week-long fishing expedition. Led by Skipper Tony and supported by top deckhands Kai, Cammo, and Harry, the boys enjoyed perfect conditions and plenty of excitement. Here are some of the highlights:
- Dan’s Giant Trevally (GT): Dan hooked an absolute beast, landing an impressive GT off the surface during a glass-out—a moment that’s sure to be talked about for years.
- Jimmy’s Barramundi Cod: Jimmy reeled in a stunning 70cm Barramundi Cod, which was safely released back into the reef.
- Andy and Dan’s Dino Coral Trout: Andy and Dan both scored big, catching and releasing massive Dino Coral Trout that made for some epic photos.
- Pitty’s Amberjack: On day one, Pitty kicked things off with a huge Amberjack while fishing the deep—a catch that set the tone for the rest of the week.
- Snacka’s Red Emperor: Snacka landed a beautiful Red Emperor, and the whole crew was there to cheer him on as the dories lined up to offload.
These were just a few of the many epic catches from their trip, which also included Red Throat, Hussar, Venus Tusk Fish, Spanish Mackerel, Cattle Dog Cod, and more. Beyond the fishing, the camaraderie among the group, paired with the expertise of the crew, made for an all-around great time. Evenings were filled with stories, laughs, and maybe even a few cold beers—just the way it should be.
While Andy and the boys had their share of highlights, they were just one of many groups to experience the magic of the Swains Reef in June and July. The Eastern Voyager saw crew after crew land some impressive fish, enjoy the breathtaking reef scenery, and make new mates along the way.
