The Swain reefs turned on their magic in July almost as if to reward those wanting to escape the winter.
We had three groups on board Eastern Voyager in July who all had some great catches.
For most of the time the weather was pretty great, and we had some remarkable catches. On one of the trips the highlight was definitely getting amongst the GTs off the back deck. Troy managed to top his personal best when he caught a giant trevally weighing in over 20 kg. Just approved this wasn’t a fluke, he then followed this up by landing a 62 cm 5 kg red Emperor. As the group organiser for that trip, we suspect Troy might be fairly pleased with his results.
There was a good variety of species caught including camouflage groper, common coral grout, blue spotted coral trout, red emperor, nannygai, spangled Emperor, red throat emperor, chinaman fish (no take), and hussar. All in all it made for a pretty good trip under the watchful eye of our skipper Danny.
We hope you enjoy these pics of some of the catches that were made.
From your busy deckie,

PS. If you love to get out to the Swain Reefs for a fishing trip but don’t have enough for a group booking, you can always check out our Join a Group charters. We don’t have many of them during the year, but we do have one that’s opened up in October for 6-7 people. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, this is only available to Queenslanders at the moment until the New South Wales borders reopen.
